Sort of lazy anyway, I did manage to get quite a bit of house cleaning and laundry done very early this morning. Boy it's such a great feeling to have that out of the way! All before noon, so the rest of the day will be just meandering. Later Honey and I will head over to Sue & Toms to be lazy there too! She can play with the dogs and maybe take a short dip in either the pond or little kiddie (doggie) pool.
Could I be any more excited to have use of my digital camera again!!!!? It's an old Nikon Coolpix I bought before winXP even came out. It's a lovely camera and at the time was pretty high end. I've had so much trouble getting the software to work because of it's age and spent quite a bit of time on the Nikon website deperately seeking the "right" choice. Finally, it hit me.....sometimes I can be slow.....I treated myself to a nice all in one printer....it has card slots....duh. I didn't think I had the right size card, but I do and it works!
Here is a picture of and Art Card I made last Fall. My sister does quilt shows and she puts some of my things out for sale. I made it with that in mind. All of my other cards that she had in her inventory have been sold so she needed more. Each square is aprox. 2" and I used a few different things. Some are enhanced with colored pencils, some chalk, some ink and everyone got rinestones for subtle splash and sparkle.
I love the brass accents too. The size is nice; 5 1/2" x 8" which puts it under the $20 mark for easy sales. My sister's a quilter and those can get pricey, so she likes to have what she refers to as my "Eye Candy". I have a paper quilt pattern that I make in different color combinations and frame. She sells those too. But my ArtCards sell the best and I really like doing them because they are each different. No two alike - ever. And it helps me to stayed challenged. Sometimes I force myself to work outside of my "comfort zone" with color. I like to make things look old and worn and I always gravitate to dark earthy colors. I'm NOT a bubbles/heartsy kind of girl. But that doesn't always sell, you have to offer more and challenge yourself more.
A few years ago I really put myself to the test and made a Beaded Tassel Book that was of colors I NEVER automatically go to! The process was daunting but the result was so very rewarding. Here is a couple of pages of that book.
I like the colors, the shades and richness. I'm just not as free and easy with them. The big AND; - I didn't make the book with anyone in mind or for anyone. I just made it. The theme just sort of came along with the process and that is "Quotes". You can't really tell much from these pictures, but most of the pages have openings cut into them to show the color of the paper on the next page. It was interesting to do and a concept that I got from an art instructor during a class project. It adds a dimension that is subtle, very subtle but keeps the eye moving. Normally my work is not clean and crisp like this, another challenge. I wanted to do that you know, keep it simple, clean. The balance of each color had to be perfect or else it would have looked lopsided.
So that's it for me so far today. We'll see what shots I can get at Sue's when we go over there.
During all of this posting my backyard neighbor is cutting down a tree. Loud, annoying (I love trees) and makes me homesick for the peacefulness of my mountain.
Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Yesterday I finally got back into my studio. I've had two unfinished books for weeks now and decided to just get in there and get them finished. What was I waiting for? They both came out so nice and the more I looked at them the more I liked them. A great feeling. The only thing left to do on the Matchbook Book was a clasp to close and I had one more ATC to make for the Beaded Tassel Book. This one came out real nice. The idea just popped into my brain one day. I combined two styles of handmade books into one and created ATCs to slide into page flaps. I can't wait to get the pictures up! I'm so proud of this book.
Now, since I switched computers about a year ago, I can't get my digital camera software to load into the newer one. Very upsetting as I had to scan the pieces and the quality is really inferior to digital. So, I've asked my sister to photograph them for me and am hoping that she'll forward them to me so that I can post them here. My old computer has tons of photos of my artwork but it also has crashed and I have been without it for over a year now. I'd love to at least get my pictures off of the hard drive.
Later yesterday Honey & I went over to my friend Sue's house to kick back, drink wine and all 7 dogs could play in her fabulous back yard. During the conversation I was offered the chance to take Honey to New Mexico for SIX weeks! Her cousins dog sitter cancelled and she needs someone to stay at her mansion while she drives to Denver. Now how could someone pass up that deal?!!!! This is such a tempting offer. I've never been to the Southwest. A road trip WITH my dog....the best company one could ever have.
Can I leave my job for six weeks and still have it when I came back? Would she be able to pay me enough? How much is enough? How long will it take to get there? How much is the Rattle Snake vaccine I'd have to get for Honey? Do I need one? Hmm, so many questions........lots to ponder. What to do, I don't know, there's not much time to decide as I will have to leave in just three weeks.
