4:45 Sunday Morning
My first serious attempt at Inchies. They are addicting I have to admit. Each is one inch square with a 1/4" boarder. When I went into the store to pick up supplies I saw this group of stamps and picked it up thinking I'd do something with them as soon as I worked up all of my Christmas cards. Well the Christmas cards never got finished as time just plain ran out. Once that decision was made - to table the cards - I broke into these. I chose black ink and only two cardstock colors. Just to keep it simple as I worked the first few. Reaching for my colored pencils to bring them to life I admit I impressed even my own critic....me. The use of glitter really made them pop I think though my picture taking skills need work. I did them all in just two sittings and found them to be very rewarding in a couple of aspects. One is that I am thrilled with how far I've come with use of color and shading and two I came to the realization that I am drawn to working really small. The focus and concentration required to work with such small pieces removes every other thought in my brain. No "I should be doing something else", "How will I come up with the money for ....?" or any of the other worries on my long mental list.
Making these inchies was good for me. It got me down in the studio, a place I love but have been avoiding (if that makes sense) and it was very enjoyable to start and finish. That has been my nemesis lately. Wanting to be down there so bad but when I get down there I find myself uninspired and unmotivated. So, I'm hoping that these will be just what I need to jumpstart my creative juices again.
