Hard to tell a Sharp Shin Hawk from a Coopers Haw besides size and sound.
The tail feathers are either rounded or squared. Did he make any noise?
And he's got prey, cool. You see its tail feathers are rounded so he's a Cooper Hawk.
I was pretty pumped to be able to get the shots from outside! Only about 30' away no less. Yeah, way cool. And what a shock to see him there in my back yard! In the city.
My friend emailed the pic to her brother in Mass. he confirmed it to be a Coopers. He's like a big birder guy, she and him take birding trips all over the world, but mostly the states.
He said it was a good pic and rare find too. So, I have to say I'm pretty happy with myself! :)))))
I don't usually go back around til there's another post. But I checked in on ya.
Yeah its a Coopers, I use several sources to ID birds, flowers, Wild flowers.
But to ID the sex, a bit harder.
Thanks for the confirm. Oh that's cool.
He was prob hungry and will go to where the food is! Makes me wonder why the Chickadees have not been around in wks.
